Spring gardening

So much for my goal to post an entry each day!!!!

Beautiful weather continues........  Planted the kumara today - hauled out an old iron ring from the junk pile and converted it into a kumara pit in the vegetable garden. Surrounded with giant German radishes ( given heirloom seeds by Opoutere student during enviro school tour).

Transplanted a couple of banana trees from house garden - hopefully will survive and thrive in warmer vege garden.

Apple trees looking spectacular & covered in blossom. Not sure about peach trees - limited flowers and leaf looks bubbled. Sprayed Apple & peach trees with Champ copper spray.

iMac computer has died, so attempting to use iPad for entry...... The photo cords won't fit!!

Chickens laying...

Six eggs today - happy chickens!!
Spring cleaned the hen house a week ago - sprayed with Neem oil and Ripcord and filled with fresh macrocarpa mulch! All happy and in full production - despite being fenced out of my vegetable garden!

Lunch!

Delicious lunch today - avocado, bacon and tomato sandwiches!

Another beautiful day!!!

Decided that yellow was not part of the recessive landscape colour scheme, so sprayed the gorse pink, in order to get that "greening" effect. Warren Coffey from Environment Waikato visited the property today - "signed off" Ali's fences and has approved the fencing and planting of Cochranes' Creek!! Yah!!!

Starting up a blog...

October 13, 2014
Yah!! the water system works!!
Chris and Irene came to stay for the weekend. Great weekend - lots of talk, laughs, exercise and ideas for the Waitekauri Valley Retreat. One idea was starting up a notebook that would capture the journey.....hence the creation of this blog!!!

Waking up to a still morning today, meant it was a great chance to spray weeds along the front driveway entrance and  vegetable garden.  Prickles look pretty coloured pink! Put in two more sections of the irrigation system in the vegetable garden - great feeling turning on that tap and seeing it work!! The sweetcorn, capsicums, peas and herbs will be happy!!
